Hult International Business School received the innovation award at an annual ceremony held by accreditation body, AMBA (the Association of MBAs), in London on Friday.

The school was recognized for its redesigned Hult MBA program, which has been developed with direct consideration of what employers are looking for in an MBA graduate, in terms of the skills and competencies required to be effective in today’s business world.

The Association of MBAs innovation award is designed to reward “new practices, risks and creativity” as part of a belief that looking for, and experimenting with, new approaches to business education should be actively encouraged.

The Hult MBA beat out the challenge of the Association of MBAs three other innovation award finalists – from Grenoble École de Management, Maastricht School of Management and Warwick Business School.

Maastricht School of Management was shortlisted for its MBA program’s focus on taking the lessons of management education to ‘fragile states’ and countries lacking in resources. Meanwhile, Grenoble and Warwick were in the running for developing novel teaching methods for use within courses - a nanotech educative board game and a film-making assignment respectively.

The need to celebrate new approaches to teaching and learning in higher education, such as that taken by the Hult MBA, is also the goal behind Reimagine Education, a new partnership between QS and the Wharton School’s SEI Center for Advanced Studies in Management, which will hold its inaugural conference, along with an innovation award ceremony recognizing achievements across eight categories, this coming December.

In addition to the Hult MBA’s innovation prize, the Association of MBAs gave out two further awards on Friday. An MBA alumna of UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, Grainne Barron, was recognized for her work as founder and CEO of Viddyad in an entrepreneurship category, and an MBA ‘student of the year’ award was won by Marta Rodrigues Cordeiro e Cunha, EMBA student at Porto Business School.
